Inspection Officer Order JB-001-2024 issued to NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd.
May 14, 2024
On May 6, 2024, a CER Inspection Officer issued an Inspection Officer Order to NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd. (NGTL) regarding the Grande Prairie Mainline pipeline rupture that occurred on April 16, 2024.
Immediately following the rupture, NGTL voluntarily reduced the operating pressure on the pipeline. CER Inspection Officers investigated the effectiveness of NGTL’s voluntary pressure reduction. After careful review of the information provided by the company, CER Inspection Officers decided to issue an Order requiring NGTL to further reduce the operating pressure for the Grande Prairie Mainline pipeline. According to the company, the additional pressure reduction will have minimal, if any, impact on end users.
The pressure reduction will be in place until NGTL demonstrates that the Grande Prairie Mainline pipeline is safe to operate at a pressure above the restricted operating pressure outlined in the Inspection Officer Order.
We will continue to follow up with the company to ensure it complies with the Inspection Officer Order.
