Eastern Region

Small photos of kayaks, small children tapping sugar maple trees, and a lighthouse are interspersed in a banner image of a fall scene near a waterbody.

The Canada Energy Regulator’s eastern regional office supports Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces

Our Work

We are the Canada Energy Regulator (CER), an organization with six decades of experience overseeing energy companies and projects in Canada. With a group of 500 highly qualified people from across the country, we work to keep energy moving safely. We are in charge of keeping watch over companies operating oil and gas pipelines and electrical powerlines that cross a national, provincial or territorial border. The companies we regulate must follow some of the strictest safety and environmental standards in the world.

Engaging Regionally

In Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces, our regional presence focuses on building meaningful relationships, raising awareness of our work and understanding diverse perspectives to develop shared solutions. Our subject matter experts provide information on damage prevention, emergency management, environmental protection and how we oversee the safe operation and maintenance of energy infrastructure.

Who We Work With

Concerns at a local level can be multi-faceted and multi-jurisdictional. Addressing these diverse issues requires those affected by CER regulated infrastructure, subject matter experts, government officials and companies to work together. From the time a project is approved through to the construction, operation and abandonment phases, we facilitate collaboration and coordination by engaging with:

  • Indigenous peoples
  • People and organizations living and working near pipelines
  • Regulated companies and industry groups
  • Federal departments, local and provincial governments
