Tolling hearing for Enbridge Canadian Mainline begins this week

Proposed framework could reduce spot capacity to 10 per cent

May 19, 2021

The hearing for Enbridge's Canadian Mainline application begins May 19, 2021, and is expected to last five weeks. Enbridge has applied to change the way it provides service on its Canadian Mainline by allowing shippers to sign long-term contracts for 90 per cent of the capacity on the pipeline.

The current tolling settlement, which expires on June 30th, allows shippers to access 100 per cent of the Canadian Mainline’s capacity on an uncommitted, month-to-month basis. The Mainline currently provides about 70 per cent of all crude oil pipeline capacity leaving western Canada.

Oral summary argument will follow cross-examination and is expected to begin approximately one week after cross-examination. We will also be streaming a live video feed from the hearing, which you can access on our website.

After the hearing concludes, the CER Commission also must decide whether to approve the new tolling framework. See the hearing order for full details on hearing steps and deadlines [Filing C06429].
