CER to hear from Edmonton and area landowners in determining detailed route of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project

The Commission of the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) will hold two detailed route hearings in Spruce Grove, AB, on January 28, 2020, to hear from landowners in the area. The two hearings will run from 9-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4 p.m. MST at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 2011 Jennifer Heil Way in Spruce Grove, AB.

The purpose of detailed route hearings is to allow the Commission to determine the exact placement of the pipeline on the lands that it crosses, as well as the most appropriate methods and timing of construction. Landowners or interested persons were able to object to the detailed route proposed by the company. The Commission granted detailed route processes where material changes in circumstances were identified since the first hearings for the project took place in 2017-18, or where those with past hearings that were not completed advised the Commission that they still objected.

The CER is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all participants, including landowners, Trans Mountain staff, CER staff and media. Hearings are open to the public and transcripts and audio files will also be posted the CER website the next day.

The 1,147 km pipeline project was approved by the Government of Canada in June 2019, along an approximately 150 metre-wide pipeline corridor. Presently, about 65 per cent of the detailed pipeline route has been approved.
