Dear Chief/CEO/President:

Information about Proposed Amendments to National Energy Board Regulations for Pipeline Damage Prevention, now Available for a 30-Day Comment Period

I am writing to update you on the letter of 8 January 2016 regarding the Pipeline Safety Act. This Act was introduced in Canada’s Parliament last year to strengthen pipeline safety. It received Parliamentary approval (Royal Assent) on 18 June 2015, and will come into force one year later, in June 2016. As a result of this new Act, the National Energy Board (NEB) is required to update its regulations that prevent damage from occurring to pipelines.

This is to inform you that the proposed regulations are now available for review in the Canada Gazette, Part I, for a 30-day comment period, ending 18 April 2016. Details on how to provide comments are in the attached letter to Interested Parties. A copy of the proposed regulations is attached for your reference.

For more information about the NEB’s damage prevention regulations, please contact Shannon Neufeld, Technical Leader, Damage Prevention, at 403-299-2778 or 1-800-899-1265, or email: shannon.neufeld@cer-rec.gc.ca

Yours truly
