NGTL GP Ltd., as general partner on behalf of NGTL Limited Partnership – 2026 Meter Station and Laterals Abandonment Program A

Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Project Background

On 22 June 2026, NGTL GP Ltd., as general partner on behalf of NGTL Limited Partnership (collectively, NGTL), filed an application to abandon 28 meter stations and 33 lateral pipelines, loops and/or producer tie-ins, all of which are part of the NGTL System (Application). NGTL has determined that the Facilities are not necessary to meet customers’ future natural gas transportation demands and will permanently cease operations resulting in a discontinuance of service.

NGTL proposes the removal of approximately 223 m of lateral pipelines and abandonment in-place of approximately 229.37 km of lateral pipelines. For the meter stations, all above-ground facilities, including the meter station buildings, yard piping, unnecessary fencing and gravel, and access (where applicable), will be permanently removed. Where side valves are required for operational purposes, the side valves will not be abandoned and will remain part of the connecting operating pipeline; however, the fencing together with the appropriate gravel pad may change (become smaller). Where side valves are not required for operational use, the side valves will be removed. Cathodic protection systems will be disconnected from the abandoned lateral pipelines and removed.

The facilities to be abandoned are located on provincial Crown lands administered by Alberta Ministry of Forestry and Parks, freehold (private) lands including NGTL-owned lands, and public lands managed by Special Areas Board Area No. 2 and Area No. 4. NGTL intends to use existing land rights for the work associated with the abandonment activities. No new permanent land rights need to be acquired for the 2026 Abandonment Program. Temporary workspace may be required during physical abandonment activities.

The proposed abandonment activities are anticipated to take place between Q2 2027 and Q1 2028.
