The Board administers a Participant Funding Program (PFP), which provides financial assistance to individuals, Indigenous groups, landowners, and non-industry not-for-profit groups to facilitate public participation in certain project hearings and environmental assessments of designated projects.
On 31 May 2019, the National Energy Board announced Funding Maximums of $40,000 to assist groups and $6,000 to assist individuals with their participation in the hearing for the NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd. – North Corridor Expansion Project. The PFP received 10 applications and recommended awarding $400,000 to all 10 eligible groups. The Executive Vice President, Regulatory approved the recommendation. Indigenous groups account for 100% of the funding awarded.
