Discover what we have to offer and how you can apply to potentially gain an exciting new career in the federal public service. Below are some pointers to help you in the application process.

Identify accommodations

The CER is committed to providing an inclusive and barrier-free work environment, starting with the hiring process. 1. Create a profile

  • Create a GC Jobs account (Read the privacy notice, then click on the blue Continue button at the bottom of the page to go to the GC Jobs account page.)
  • Complete your profile by providing all required information and uploading your resumé.
  • Save your profile.

Foreign credential validation against Canadian standards

If you were educated outside of Canada, you will need to have your certificates or diplomas assessed against Canadian education standards. Learn how to get foreign credentials assessed by a recognized credential assessment service, so that your educational credentials can be recognized by the Canada Energy Regulator.

2. Apply

  • Login to your account to apply for a job or to review the status of your application.
  • Search for available Canada Energy Regular jobs
  • Use filters to refine your job search.
  • To make your job search easier, you can:
    • create a saved search.
    • sign up for email alerts, where the search criteria you have chosen will be applied and will be saved to your account.
  • On the job advertisement, select the Apply online link.
  • Complete the list of Requirements, remember to save as you go!
  • If you identify as a woman, or are an Indigenous person, a member of a visible minority, or a person with a disability, you may self-declare in the Employment Equity section of the Requirements, using consent option 3.
  • Submit your application before the closing date and time listed on the job advertisement, using the Submit application link.

Your Official Language Rights

Applications can be submitted in either official language. As well, you are entitled to have any assessment or interview conducted in the official language of your choice. Please note, if you choose to be assessed in French for an English essential position, you will be asked to be tested on your English Language skills.

Employment equity: Count yourself in!

3. Application tips

  • Carefully review the job poster for instructions on submitting an application. Failure to provide the requested documentation may result in your application being rejected from the process. You will not be asked for incomplete or missing information. You are strongly encouraged to demonstrate how you also meet the asset qualifications.
  • For clarity in your cover letter, use each qualification as a header and then write one to two paragraphs demonstrating how you meet these requirements. See Sample cover letter and Sample resumé below.
  • Do your research. Talk to people who are knowledgeable about the type of position you are applying for or to someone in a similar position or role.
  • Write or update your resumé. Be sure to include accomplishments that highlight the experience, knowledge and competencies listed in the job poster.
  • Get a second (or third) opinion of your resumé and cover letter. Ask a friend or family member to proofread it and provide feedback.

I wrote a thesis on the effects of various social programs and early intervention on the rate of alcoholism and the associated crime rate in isolated communities.
  2. Participating in policy or multidisciplinary project teams
    • Participated in multidisciplinary project team of economists, sociologists and public health professionals in developing and writing policy papers on various aspects of health care.
  3. Writing of reports, briefing notes and policy statements
    • Regularly write reports and policy statements on various aspects of social programs.
    • Participated in the drafting of several briefing notes to the Minister on current developments in health care.

4. Review the hiring conditions

Essential qualifications must be met before an appointment is made. Asset qualifications may also be used for screening or to determine the right fit for the position.

Security
